The author doesn’t think Christianity can be this – I think it could. I found Deloria’s commentary deoria insightful in places, and as usual, his one-liners and conclusions are fantastic and worth quoting long after closing the book.

The Spatial Problem of History. The first and most blatant is the bizarre diversion off into Immanuel Velikovsky ‘s Worlds in Collision and its theories about Venus being a comet and Venus and Mars ping-ponging around the solar system to produce many of the ancient accounts of miracles.
Deloria drives it home that Western Culture is basically secularized Christianity. Some of these objections are dealt with, but in the interests of space I’ll just mention that and go on. Vine’s books influenced our generation and are as important to United States culural history as are books by Norman Mailer and Tom Wolfe.
At times Deloria seems to fail to discriminate between major and minor abuses. However, that point in itself is worth mentioning: Deloria’s background is in history, religion, and politics and that is where he excels. I agree with the overall thrust of this book, but the “scholarship”, such as it is, to back up the claims is at best shallow and at worst absurd.

This is a dense book that deals with a lot of issues, and I’m not going to be able to cover them all here because I have limited delodia and my reviews are long enough anyway. The Great Spirit, in placing men on earth, desired them to take good care of the ground and to do each other no harm.
At some points of the book it becomes just that, merely a i of complaints that Deloria has with religion, which are justified but still a little bit trite. He discusses the differences between Christian beliefs and those of native tribal nations, and how their fundamental differences have prevented vnie from coming to any remote understanding of each other, particular the distinction between time and space when it comes to how religions measure themselves, and the focus on the human versus focus on nature.
